Your "YODP" will help you stay organized and encourage progress throughout the year. While you are responsible for creating and overseeing your own YODP/goal, you can always go over it with your mentor or your case manager.
BBSVC’s YODP model is made up of 4 forms, but if another structure works better for you - like journaling or vlogging - you’re welcome to use those formats to track your personal goal progress.
If you choose to follow our model, we recommend the following steps:

Start by giving yourself a S.M.A.R.T. Goal that is...
SPECIFIC: Write exactly what you hope to achieve, in detail. Don't be vague - say "I want to get a certification in coding AI," instead of "I want to get better at computers."
MEASURABLE: Break your main goal down into smaller steps. As you complete each step you will able to visually see your progress.
ATTAINABLE: Set a goal that is possible within an appropriate amount of time. Earlier one year was mentioned? Don't set a goal that involves world domination over the course of 10 years.
REALISTIC: Believe in your potential and recognize the strengths you have today, while staying open to growth along the way. Set goals that inspire you, embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, and remember that every step forward helps you become the person you aspire to be. Where your honest with yourself and who you are.
TIME-BOUND: Give yourself a deadline and stick to it! Check in on your goal each time you meet with your mentor or at least once per month on your own.
Doing a personal SWOT analysis allows you to stop reacting to your environment and start acting strategically. By laying it all out on paper, you can create a plan to maximize your strengths and seize opportunities to grow.

We'll always be checking in with you and you can always reach out to us. We want to make sure you feel supported, are connected with the resources you need, and practicing healthy habits. Keeping an eye on your mental health prepares you for long-term stability.
The Live-Learn-Work-Play-Rest Balance helps you maintain a healthy relationship between:
LIFE - the foundation of your identity and sense of self. It involves managing daily responsibilities, nurturing relationships, and participating in the community.
LEARNING - the pursuit of new knowledge, skills, and perspectives. Learning builds the "mental toolkit" to adapt to change and fosters a growth mindset to view challenges as opportunities.
WORK - Provides the structure, sense of purpose, and resources needed for independence. This is where you apply skills, learn professional etiquette, and understand the value of time and labor.
PLAY - vital for stress relief and innovation. It involves hobbies, humor, and social activities. Play refreshes the mind, prevents burnout, and sparks the creative thinking needed for complex problem-solving.
REST - the essential body/brain recharging phase. It includes sleep, mindfulness, and downtime. Rest gives us the ability to process information, regulate emotions, and maintain physical health.
Work on a new version of this sheet each time you meet with your mentor or case manager! This progress sheet will help you keep track of how your goal changes throughout the year, and identify any specific or ongoing needs that come up.
It is okay to switch gears and change strategies as your progress changes or hits hurdles - Item 4 will help guide your thinking!

Take time to celebrate and reflect! Without this step, we often jump straight to the next task...but always moving fast can sometimes make us feel like we're never actually arriving at the finish line.
How will you celebrate achieving your goal?
We'll be celebrating all of your hard work at our Big Futures Expo, but you don't have to wait until then! It can be as simple as a "Victory Starbucks," a night off from chores, or sharing the news with your mentor who helped you get there.
You don't have to actually achieve your goal in one year in order to celebrate.
Successful steps towards a goal are just as important milestones as achieving the goal in full! Remember, YOU get to decide the timeline and pace for accomplishing your tasks!
Print your YODP forms or pick up hardcopies at any BBSVC space.
Keep your YODP forms in a binder or folder that is easily accessible.
Make sure to use these to reflect on your progress, including when you meet with your mentor, case manager, and individually throughout the year on your timeframe.
You can always re-print forms and do them over/update them. Keep your older versions to track your progress!
Do NOT try to complete all of the forms at once! Space them out on a timeline that is comfortable and realistic for you, but give yourself a deadline to ensure completion.
Big Futures offers helpful tools, dates to remember, updates, an ongoing checklist, and more to support you in your individual goal-setting all year long...come back to this page if you ever need to find these materials!
