Hello! My name is Edgar and I am BBSVC's Program Liaison - I'll also be your case manager! You are always welcome to reach out to me at any time for any reason, and I'll be connecting with you on a regular basis to make sure you're aware of our regular schedule, feeling comfortable with the pace of the program, and are connected to the resources you need to thrive.
You can earn a Big Futures Community Pathway Certificate by participating in both of the following BBSVC mentoring programs for the full year (June 1, 2026 - May 30, 2027):
Big Ambassadors
Big for a Day
There is information about each program on this page. You will always have access to this link!
Are you ready to explore new Community Pathway opportunities with Big Futures? Let's go!
Fun Fact: Our Community Pathway certificate stamp represents a woven basket. In Chumash culture, baskets represent an indispensible tool used for daily life as well as for ceremony, a connection to the land, and ancestral knowledge. In living tradition, Chumash basket weaving as a skill and art was nearly lost, and is maintained today through indigenous community efforts to teach traditional weaving methods.

Big Ambassadors is an outreach and advocacy initiative designed to bridge the gap between BBSVC and the local community. It empowers alumni Bigs, current participants (like our Big Futures cohorts), and passionate supporters to act as the official "voice" of the agency. This participant network supports outreach, advocacy, collaborative skill-building, and drive a 360-degree feedback loop that supports agency evolution.
They represent BBSVC at local Ventura County events, sharing "impact stories" that humanize our agency’s mission and move the community to action. They lead the charge in finding new mentors - like with our "100 Big Brothers" campaign - by participating in info sessions or "Lunch & Learns" partner businesses and civic groups.
They brainstorm about their own networks, places in the community they are familiar with and trust, and neighborhood opportunities to open doors for new agency relationships.
They help orient new volunteers, offering the "real-talk" perspective of what it’s actually like to be a Big.

Taking the time to learn about the fabric of Ventura County can build valuable awareness and improved understanding about how we are all connected with a common goal of building healthier communities together! Join us for structured shadowing opportunities with some of our area's cross-sector leaders and explore new resources.
From short-term workshops to classroom experiences, this program equips young people with practical knowledge to help them navigate the transition to becoming an active community leader.
Self-Led: Shadowing a Big for a Day
As a part of your YODP skill-building, you will be expected to identify at least one community opportunity that would be of value to you. Your case manager will help connect you with that topic expert for a day of one-on-one shadowing!
Observing a veterinary office in action
Getting a behind-the-scenes tour of a civic center
Participating in a ride-along with your local police or sheriff
Volunteering for a beach cleanup with Fish & Wildlife
What is it that you want to explore, experience, and learn more about?
Participate in our meetups to hear from community leaders and top professionals in their field. Separately, these folks represent important puzzle pieces that make their community stronger; together, they represent a BIG picture of an intersectional Ventura County!
