Our goal is to find the right mentor for every child who needs or wants one!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County focuses on the children in our community who need us most. We offer special programs to pair mentors with "Littles," ages 6 through 17, in one-to-one mentoring relationships.

BBSVC's Core Programs

TRADITIONAL MENTORING PROGRAM (Community-Based)

Bigs and Littles set their own schedules and meet up on a consistent basis.  Bigs open the doors to new social, educational, and recreational experiences.  One-to-one mentoring between a child facing adversity and a Big volunteer can improve the trajectory of a child's life.

What’s a Big and Little to do together? Each match is unique. Getting together doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activity—just a few hours every week doing things the Little and Big already enjoy, whether its hiking, playing sports, reading a favorite book, or sharing dreams for the future.

LUNCH BUDDIES (Site-Based)
As a Lunch Buddy, Bigs are matched with a child at their choice of Chavez (Oxnard) or Montalvo (Ventura) Elementary Schools.  Over the course of the school year, Bigs spend lunch recess with their Little each week on the day that best fits their schedule.

FOSTER YOUTH MENTORING (Community-Based)
A Foster Youth Mentor can make a difference in the life of a child who lives in a group home, foster home, kinship care, or treatment facility by sharing the simple things that many take for granted.  Foster Youth Mentoring helps provide foster youth with the life skills and emotional support needed to successfully transition into independent living.

How Do I Become a Big?

If you are ready to apply to become a Big to a Little who is waiting to meet you, you can start by filling out our general Big application!

Before we make a match, we do our homework. Big Applicants go through an extensive background check and a careful interview process. Then we match Bigs and Littles based on personalities, goals, interests, and location.

BBSVC provides full, professional support that lasts for the lifetime of each mentoring match.  Our professional match specialists are available at any time for questions, concerns, or emergencies.
